The approach is called <strong>S<\/strong>tart-<strong>S<\/strong>top-<strong>C<\/strong>ontinue (S-S-C).\u00a0 This method enables a focus on improvements, drives prioritization, creates alignment and supports effective strategies for teamwork and projects.\u00a0 But what I appreciate most about it, is the ability to obtain direct, candid feedback from my teams on my leadership performance and as a collective group, what they need from me to support their success.\u00a0 When successfully completed, the results from S-S-C will help your growth as a leader and support your efforts of building a stronger, more effective team.<\/p><p>From a leader\u2019s perspective, the primary goal of S-S-C for personal feedback is to obtain a clear understanding of what your team needs from you now (Start), determine what is no longer working for them (Stop) and understand what continues to work for them or that they appreciate (Continue).\u00a0 The feedback should be a representation of your entire team\u2019s needs and indicate the prioritization that they require from you.\u00a0 You will find that when you repeat the S-S-C feedback with your team, their needs will change over time. This can be the result of altered team dynamics or what is happening in your department, company or even industry.\u00a0 For this reason, I suggest that you conduct the exercise at least once per year or when there are major changes or projects that impact your teams.<br \/><br \/>The key to an effective S-S-C for your personal feedback is to facilitate anonymity.\u00a0 This is achieved by asking your team to elect a representative(s) who is responsible for the confidential maintenance and submission of the S-S-C template and will provide you with additional clarity (if required) from the feedback. \u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-e70113d elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"e70113d\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-53c1608\" data-id=\"53c1608\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da09a4d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"da09a4d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How to Successfully Execute S-S-C Feedback:<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1475f1f elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1475f1f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">1. Establish your \u201cwhy<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-441306c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"441306c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Share your \u201cwhy\u201d with your team. Why are you requesting their feedback? \u00a0\u00a0Be honest about your motives.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f203a83 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f203a83\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">2. Clarify your intentions<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8ccd802 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8ccd802\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Determine and share with your team what you intend to do with the feedback or how you plan on using it.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-eec9fd7 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"eec9fd7\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">3. Provide clear guidelines<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8d2936e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8d2936e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul><li>Explain why the team needs to elect a representative and what their responsibilities will entail<\/li><li>Reassure your team that all content discussed and details on the template will be kept confidential for and within your team(s) and only used for the purpose of your leadership feedback (unless otherwise agreed upon by everyone)<\/li><li>Reinforce that emotional Intelligence <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/justin-bariso\/13-things-emotionally-intelligent-people-do.html\">EQ<\/a>\/EI is to be used by everyone at all times<\/li><li>Determine the start and finish dates of the exercise<\/li><li>Affirm the importance of giving honest feedback and that it should reflect the majority of the team<\/li><li>Request that they identify any priorities or urgent needs<\/li><\/ul><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-82effc5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"82effc5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">4. Decide on the S-S-C template and how they will create and submit it\n<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ea4c2fd elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ea4c2fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>There are a variety of ways your team(s) may choose to discuss and complete the template.\u00a0 On some occasions, my teams chose to meet together to discuss and complete it, while other times they simply posted a protected document on a shared drive, took turns adding their personal notes and then the representative extracted the details and discussed the contents accordingly.\u00a0 When completion time was restricted, another team chose to each email the representatives their individual feedback prior to a team meeting during which they would align and prioritize.<\/p><p>The template itself <u>must<\/u> have the following three sections with leading questions:\u00a0<\/p><ul><li><strong>Start <\/strong>&#8211; What do you need for me to start doing\/do more of?<\/li><li><strong>Stop <\/strong>&#8211; What do you want me to stop doing or minimize?<\/li><li><strong>Continue <\/strong>&#8211; What do you want to ensure I continue to do\/enjoy doing as a team?<\/li><\/ul><p>As part of the process, I would only receive the final template from the team representative via email or protected on a shared drive.\u00a0 If I had questions or required details, I would reach out to the representatives directly prior to the next step (do not attempt to speak to others from your team for insight).\u00a0<\/p><p>Here are some <em>personal<\/em> <em>examples<\/em> of what I\u2018ve received from some of my teams:\u00a0 <br \/><br \/><strong><em>Start<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 Providing opportunities for cross-functional team training.\u00a0 Enable more frequent remote working opportunities.\u00a0 <br \/><strong><em>Stop<\/em><\/strong>:\u00a0 Accepting incomplete templates from business partners.\u00a0 \u00a0<br \/><strong><em>Continue<\/em><\/strong>: Team lunch meetings and outings.\u00a0 Awarding and publicly recognizing their work at Divisional and Team Meetings<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-24eb6ab elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"24eb6ab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">5.
